Letters Across Waters

A guided school penpal exchange connecting children in the UK and Ireland.

Letters Across Waters is a school-based penpal project designed to connect children in the UK and Ireland through letter writing.

At its heart, it’s about something simple — children writing to children. Sharing everyday life, learning about each other’s worlds, and building connections through real, handwritten letters.

To support this, each participating class receives a digital resource pack, designed to make the experience easy to deliver and engaging for students.

This includes guided prompts, structured activities, and simple ideas to help children get started — giving teachers everything they need to run the exchange confidently within the classroom.

In a time where so much communication is instant, this project brings something different into the school day — encouraging creativity, curiosity, and confidence through writing.
